I am married to my childhood sweetheart and together we have 2 dogs, a horse and a very special cat. I enjoy traveling and spending time with my husband and fur kids.

Jessica Sowder, LVT:

I joined our health care team in July of 1997, and have been the lead technician of Northern Oaks since 2007.
I am a Licensed Veterinary Technician having earned my degree through an AAHA accredited school. My special interests include dentistry and radiology.
My husband and I have two boys and two dogs. I enjoy gardening and spending time with my family.

My name is Nikki Peterson and I have been working at Northern Oaks since July of 2012.  I started as an assistant and was recently promoted to Veterinary Technician.  I am currently enrolled at Cedar Valley College.  I began the course in the spring of 2015 and will graduate by 2017 as a Licensed Technician.  After graduation I would like to pursue a radiology specialty in the animal field. I converted my boyfriend into an animal lover.  We have a cat named Zane and a puppy named Kratos. I love being active outside or working out in the gym but I am mostly a homebody.

My name is Candice. I have been a part of the Northern Oaks Bird and Animal Hospital Team for 10 years! I started out as an assistant for 2 years and then became a Technician.  I have 2 cats, Chingy and Sheba.  Chingy is a rescue from the Humane Society and Sheba was adopted from Northern Oaks.  I absolutely enjoy working with animals. I am currently working on my Associate of Science Degree and look forward to obtaining my Veterinary Technician license. I enjoy outdoors, movies and live music.

Veterinary Assistant

My name is Joeann and I joined the Northern Oaks team in 2013 as a Kennel Tech during my Senior year in high school.  I was promoted to assistant shortly thereafter.  I have always loved animals and I enjoy coming to work and doing what I can to help them.  Outside of work I love to watch movies, spend time with my boyfriend and my two dogs, Blitz and Jasper.  Working with animals is my passion and I will continue to do it for as long as I can.

Veterinary Assistant

I have been in the veterinary industry for 3 years.  I began working for Northern Oaks as an intern in my high school program.  Since graduating high school I have enrolled at UTSA to study Biology.  I have two dogs that I love spending time with. Their names are Darth Vader and Fifi.

I have recently joined the team at Northern Oaks.  I am new to the field but feel it is a terrific fit for me.  I have a passion for caring for animals and this position has allowed me to explore this field as a new career. I am married with four children, 3 boys and 1 girl. I have been grooming pets for 11 years.  I attend continuing education to stay abreast of new and interesting techniques I can bring to Northern Oaks in our grooming department. I am married with two beautiful girls.  I have two dogs, Penny, a silky mix and Kisa, an Applehead Chihuahua.

Trainer/Professional Paperweight

I have been a member of Northern Oaks Bird & Animal Hospital for approximately 8 years.  My position here involves training new employees to adhere to my demands and managing the flow of paperwork.  My daily routine involves breakfast with Kristen.   She has been a very fast learner.  Then its on to reception where am needed to assist in checking in patients. I move on to Amy's lap for loving after that.  Luckily Amy and Leah are well trained.  Leah sometimes needs my assistance holding down her paperwork. I oblige only because I know she will also rub my head.  My assistance is always needed upstairs.  The "manager" needs assistance with her paperwork as well.  I'm not sure she could accomplish anything if I weren't in the middle of her desk through the morning.  Sometimes she allows that other cat on her desk.  At this point I leave them because I shant be bothered by their nonsense.  At this time I am usually in need of sunning.  I take my position in the window and watch the birds.  If the receptionists are getting out of hand I assist by sitting on their papers again.  I am incredibly busy, as you can see.  Northern Oaks would likely fall apart without my assistance.  There is even a song about me!

Kitten Greeter

I am the most handsome and loved cat in the hospital.  That sounds arrogant but everyone knows it's true.  I have been with Northern Oaks since I was about five.  I am the Official Kitten Greeter of the hospital.  I delight in showing the new kids around the treatment area and making them feel safe.  I was abandoned and thus I know how very scary it can be in a new place.  I enjoy the company of the team.  I've recently expanded my territory to the reception area and upstairs on the manager's desk.  They love it when I knock their papers off the desk or steal their food.  I am given treats on request and love having my head scratched.  I receive the most amazing hair style and have been featured on our website and emails numerous times.  When my roaming and kitten greeting have been done for the day, I retire to my perch to watch over the treatment area.  I am always willing to eat and will accompany anyone that offers.  I'm a really nice guy.

Patient Comforter

I came to Northern Oaks as a kitten.  This chick that I call Mom, told me if I got in the box thing my life would change.  She was right!!!  I have my own room with soft fluffy blankets and a bed.  I can hang out with Mom and her friends all day but when I'm tired I ask to go back to my room and I nap.  I have the most awesome toy that I play fetch with and get treats and tasty food when I'm hungry.  It's a really cool gig.  I have found that Mom and her friends like it when I'm nice to the patients.  I dig hanging out on the blankets with them while they receive their laser treatments.  It makes them feel better and I get to nap while looking like I'm helping.  Plus, I get belly rubs and head scratches.  Pretty cool deal!
